REACH THE BEACH | May 20th - Oregon

When spring arrives, all roads lead to the beach, which may be why the 16th annual Reach The Beach Clean Air Bicycle Challenge event will have over 2,000 participants from all rides of life!   Some will be slow, some will be race-trained veterans and some only will be occasional weekend riders. But all riders will have two things in common: they will head to picturesque Pacific City - from any one of five different routes - and they will be pedaling for a good cause.

Reach the Beach is the major fundraiser for the American Lung Association of Oregon (ALAO).   Every pedal stroke helps promote clean Oregon air and lung health.   This year the registration fee is only $25.   Every rider is required to achieve a modest fundraising goal of $50, and the Reach the Beach website features easy-to-use fundraising tools that make it fun to meet and exceed that goal.   If you're a motivated fundraiser you may qualify for amazing prizes - including a free pass to STP, a Trek bike and a free pass to Cycle Oregon - and you can feel great knowing you're supporting the ALAO.

WILLAMETTE VALLEY CLASSIC | April 21-23 - Oregon

The Willamette Valley Classic Stage is a combination of classic and new race courses for the Willamette Valley. With multiple categories the event offers something for everyone. From a flat sprinters stage, a demanding time trial, a super fun circuit race and the Queen stage around the famous Wolf Creek this race has it all.

Volunteering for the event is a great way to see all the action.   Says organizer Richard Sweet: "Watch the race unfold in while driving lead or follow car, enjoy the beauty of the Willamette Valley while marshalling a corner or be there for the start and finish and help us set-up or tear down. Like the Tour De France we will need an army of volunteers to make this an epic event for years to come."

WORST DAY OF THE YEAR RIDE | Ride recap

Once again this year, the Worst Day of the Year Ride occurred on one of the best days of winter as clear skies and bright sun warmed riders.   The ride more than doubled in size this year with a record 1,525 participants.   Riders cruised along a scenic urban tour of Portland including the beautiful Alameda Ridge.   Beneficiary Community Cycling Center hosted a photo booth to capture the ride's signature style - all fun all the time.   Take a peek at this photo gallery we put together.

FILMED BY BIKE IV | April 14th - Portland

On April 14th the Clinton Street Theater in SE Portland will be packed with quite possibly the most diverse cross section of cyclists to be in one room at one time. The occasion?   Filmed by Bike, a thrillingly creative film festival.   Filmed by Bike is the nation's largest festival of bike-themed film shorts and has sold out every year.   The jury hasn't yet chosen the pieces, but with an eight-minute time limit on submissions, the program is sure to be packed with at least 15 international films.

Deeply plotted bike love stories, glimpses at biking in other cities and stories of a cyclist's triumph will fill the silver screen for a night in celebration of bike culture around the world.   Beer will be available for sale and the proceeds benefit the Multnomah County Bike Fair.   As if all of that wasn't enough excitement for the night, there is also a raffle with excellent prizes, including R.E. Load bags, bike-centric clothing from Cadence and bike caps made by the local Shaun Deller.   Volunteers are needed.   See the website for details.
