HOTTEST DAY OF THE YEAR RIDE | August 6, Portland
Freak Snowstorm Predicted!

Well, not really, but given the sunny weather that happens every year on the Worst Day of the Year Ride, you just never know what will happen on the Hottest Day of the Year Ride. The Community Cycling Center is challenging cyclists to tough it out on a hot day in support of their bicycle programs for low-income youth. The reward? A great route, a huge make-your-own sundae bar at the finish line and a chance to squirt your riding buddies at the West's largest water fight (squirt guns provided).

Children are welcome and the two routes, 15 and 40 miles, provide options for riders of all skill levels. 1,500 riders braved the elements on the Worst Day of the Year Ride, let's see if Oregon's got what it takes for the hottest!
PROVIDENCE BRIDGE PEDAL | August 13, Portland
Have you ever driven over the Fremont Bridge and wondered what it would be like to stand up there and gaze out over the city from that amazing vantage point, with no cars around? That's exactly what you get to do on Providence Bridge Pedal. This annual tradition is a community celebration of Portland, the Willamette River bridges and bicycling. It is your once-a-year opportunity to bike across all of Portland's bridges, from the Sellwood to the St. Johns, including the top decks of the Marquam and Fremont bridges. The Providence Bridge Pedal Health and Wellness Expo on August 11 and 12 is hosted at the DoubleTree Hotel, Lloyd Center. You can register, pick up your event materials, and check out special activities and exhibits of LifeBalance Providers and Providence programs and services.

Bridge Pedal is the second largest recreational cycling event in the country. With three different routes of 14, 24 and 36 miles, there is an option for everyone. In cooperation with the Portland Office of Transportation's Women on Bikes program, the 8:15 a.m. start time is reserved exclusively for women. Riders must be age 13 or older and may participate in either the 8- or 6-bridge ride. Children riding in trailers or on bike seats are welcome.
RACE THE HEALTH NET TWILIGHT CIT | August 11 - South Park Blocks
You're speeding around the South Park Blocks streets and the band and the beer garden are right in the middle - on the grass in front of the Portland Art Museum. That's what it's like at the Portland Twilight Criterium, a Friday night downtown crit. Men's Cat 3 is from 7-7:45 with a $3,000 purse and Men's Pro 1/ 2 is from 8-9 with a $10,000 purse. The criterium format means that participants will be racing a short course (approximately 1 kilometer) for a fixed period of time (1 hour) that includes racing on Broadway.

Participation in the Health Net Portland Twilight Criterium allows you to accumulate points for the Cycling Classic in Boise, Idaho on August 13 as part of the I-84 challenge. Cash purses total $15,600 for the I-84 challenge.
WATCH THE HEALTH NET TWILIGHT CIT | August 11 - South Park Blocks
Professional bike racing comes to downtown Portland every summer for the Heath Net Portland Twilight Criterium. The race presents a 60 minute, in-your-face (and backyard) sprint for your viewing pleasure. Eighty riders per race will be jostling for position as they wind around the T-shaped course, completing a lap every 90 seconds for one hour.

Join 10,000 spectators for an evening of action. This year's event features live music, food, beer and wine. Secure bike parking is free and Health Net is providing free helmets to children at the Team Health Net motorcoach from 5:30 p.m to 7:30 p.m. Helmet fitting is provided by the experts of Health Net and GI Joe's. The criterium is free to the public. Festivities begin at 4:30pm and racing is on from 5:30-9pm.
THE TORTURE 10,000 | August 24 - Gresham
It is the Pacific Northwest so, if you want to see the countryside you are going to encounter some hills. The Torture 10,00 gained it's name for a reason, and that reason includes feet and miles: 10,000 vertical feet over 100 miles, 100 feet per mile, to be exact. Imagine climbing ten flights of stairs, 100 times. With three ride options, it is accessible to sadists and the sensible alike. The "scenic" loop, the "challenge" and the infamous namesake "torture" offer varying levels of difficulty. The 30 mile loop winds through east county orchards, refuels in Sandy, and returns the back way to Portland . The 72 mile route buys you most of the benefits of the full ride, including orchards, old growth forests, and views aplenty… but no bragging rights. Why else would any sane person choose to "pack in 10,000 fabulous feet of climbing into 100 miles", if not to be able to say they did it? Conquer the torture, then tell all your friends about it.
Yaquina Lighthouse Century | August 20 - Yaquina
The Yaquina Lighthouse Century, hosted by the Yaquina Wheels Bike Club, is one of the most beautiful rides in Oregon. The course takes you past crashing waves on quite backwaters along three different routes. Riders also pass by the historic Yaquina Head lighthouse and the Yaquina Bay lighthouse. From there it's on to some of the most picturesque back road riding with panoramic ocean, bay and river views.

Choose your route: a short 25 mile, a metric century and a century. Book a day on the coast and experience the sea side the way it was meant to be experienced: on your bike.
