PROVIDENCE BRIDGE PEDAL | August 12 - Portland |
On the morning of Sunday, August 12, Portland area friends, families and neighbors will hop on their bicycles, and by noon
they will have biked a combined 1/2 million miles. That is like biking to the moon and back, but Providence Bridge Pedal is much more fun.
In 1994 a group of bicycle enthusiasts, inspired by the success of rides like Cycle Oregon and Seattle to Portland, had the idea that there should be a biking event to celebrate Portland. It was a short step from that notion to resounding
agreement that Portland's Willamette River bridges would serve as the centerpiece of the ride. These ten bridges include architectural masterpieces (and a couple of clunkers) and offer remarkable views of the city and the river. But the
bridges are more than a visual landscape: they actually stitch the community together.
Over 7,500 people showed up for the first Bridge Pedal in 1996. This year almost three times that number are expected to participate. Sign up today for the rare opportunity to see the city from way up top the Fremont bridge, to ride with
friends and enjoy a day in the city.
