THE NIGHT RIDE | July 12 - Portland |
See the city at night - by bike! When you ride with the Nighttime Club, you see the city in a whole new light. The Night
Ride is Portland's only nighttime adventure ride to experience dramatic cityscape views, flaming entertainers and glowing hula-hoopers. Blinking signs will guide you through this flat, well-marked course on a journey like no other. Sure,
you like sleep, but rest up while you can because on July 12th there's no turning in early with all the excitement on this ride.
Bedtime, schmedtime. This ride is a benefit for the Bicycle Transportation Alliance so there is no reason to sleep through it.
Along the way you'll watch movies from Filmed by bike, a film festival that features bicycle-themed short movies. The organizers are creating a gigantic theater with an enormous screen in a secluded North Portland field. All of the
movies are under eight minutes, so you can watch a few quickies then move on to the next rest stop. After that it's on to the Disco Party Rest Stop at the Candy Shack where you can trick or treat without supervision. Shove handfuls of
candy in your face and then use that sugar buzz to boogie, hustle or electric slide across the dance floor; disco ball, fog machines, strobe lights and hula hoops included. But keep your electric slide in check because there's still more
riding to do as you make your way to the finish line party for the live marimba band and an all-you-can-eat doughnut feast. Yummmmm!
There are prizes for the best costumes and free custom-made reflectors for all costumed riders, so come dressed to impress. This creative ride always features some outrageous get-ups. Think you can top them? ORbike wants you to
try! Then send us your photos and we'll put them up on our blog.
Save big when you register before the ride and when you register at participating locations. You may register online before 7/11 and at the start line. See the website for details.

HOTTEST DAY OF THE YEAR RIDE | August 3 - Portland |
You know things are really heating up with a ride starts to go for not just one but TWO world records. That's what they're
doing this year on the Hottest Day of the Year Ride, a day of fun in the sun on two wheels. The organizers are back at it again with a gigantic finish line water fight as riders try to conquer the world record for the largest water fight
ever recorded. This year they've also added a second world record challenge with a watermelon eating contest at one of the rest stops.
And the new stuff gets even better. This year there is an additional rest stop in North Portland with a slip n' slide, lemonade and other summertime treats. Riders who want an extra challenge can check out the new 40-mile route that
loops up near gorgeous Kelley Point Park, Smith and Bybee Lakes and over Mt. Tabor.
This urban fun ride is a great way to spend a hot day in Portland, and it is a benefit for the Community Cycling Center. The course is 17 miles, relatively flat, very well marked and travels on low-traffic streets through North and
Northeast Portland. The finish line features a build-your-own sundae bar with all the best toppings - chocolate sauce, strawberries, crushed cookies, nuts, whipped cream, caramel sauce, fruit loops, cherries, and so much more. Pile it
high - then eat it fast before it melts. Get your swimsuit ready, you're going for the best summertime sunshine ride on record!

MEMBER PROFILE | Meghan Kent |
ORbike member Megan Kent bought her first road bike last October, after she was informed by her doctor that swimming and
cycling were the only safe sports for her because of injured knees. Just two months later went on a century ride from Sacramento to Stockton. "There was an unbelievable head wind. I didn't think I was in good enough shape for it but with
the help of my friend Motrin, I did just fine."
Meghan, a 30 year old from Wilsonville, loves perusing the ORbike calendar to look for events. "There is always something to do under the events section - from Taco Truck Tuesday to Bike Polo - and it all looks like fun!" she
says.
This year she, Meghan says, she's looking forward to STP and the many other great events she'll discover through ORbike. And one thing's for certain: She loves being an ORbike member.
