THE NIGHT RIDE | July 7 - Portland
If all that daytime riding leaves you wondering what the city looks like at night, it's time you signed up for The Night Ride. The ride will take you past hot fire jugglers set in the middle of Mississippi Avenue night life as you head to a special outdoor screening of bicycle films from Filmed by Bike. Once you've had your fill of movies and popcorn, you'll travel along the Peninsula Crossing trail on your way to the disco party rest stop where you can be a wallflower or join the action. And the fun keeps going as you cruise right back to where you started - to the train station for a midnight doughnut feast. The Night Ride is a benefit for the Bicycle Transportation Alliance.

There will be prizes for the best costumes and decorated bikes, so don't be shy and do it up right. The Last Regiment Syncopated Drummers will send riders off with their signature resounding beat and all 2,000 riders will receive free glow-necklaces and Tireflys wheel lights to ward off vampires along the way.

THE BARLOW TRAIL CENTURY | JUNE 24th - Gresham
Inspired by one of River City's favorite routes, the Barlow Trail Century features spectacular views and a historic, quiet course. This road ride is an out and back style with 40, 60, 80 and 100 mile options - all on blissfully low-traffic roads. Century riders begin at Paesano's Cedarville Park in Gresham with an easy warm up along a rails-to-trails conversion path. Country roads lead down to the Sandy River and up to a rest stop at gorgeous Roslyn Lake. Refreshing summer fruits and gourmet bakery goods will give you a boost before you begin the climb up the "Devil's Backbone" into "Little Switzerland." A gentle grade follows the wagon trail route towards Mt. Hood. Don't fear that eight-mile climb to Lolo Pass, the effort is worth the amazing view of the mountain. The last leg is mostly downhill as you cruise to the post-ride party.

This event is a benefit for Bicycles and Ideas for Kids Empowerment. Registration includes maps, goodies at the start, on course mechanical and first-aid support, gourmet food stops, SAG wagons and a finish party featuring a delicious organic meal, micro-beer and live music. Don't miss this super-fun event organized and brought to you by River City Bicycles.
