REACH THE BEACH | May 19 - Oregon
Reach the Beach is almost here! Whether you're ready for that new Corvallis Challenge of 110 miles or you're taking it easy with the 26-mile Grand Ronde route, you're in for a treat. Reach the Beach features spectacular routes along quiet rural roads. This is one Oregon ride you simply don't want to miss, and it's a great way to get your season started.

But don't just take our word for it. Joe Clyde, who has participated for six years with his wife Margene, say he rides, "because it is for a great cause, is well supported, has a lot of great people to visit with - and it's not a killer ride." He means killer as in torturous; we think it IS killer, as in gnarly, awesome and rad.

This year there are two lunches: a hot lunch with a fresh baked potato bar and yummy soup and a deli stop with sandwiches. You'll find well-stocked rest stops every 12 miles and plenty of support along the way. If you're riding from Salem (80) or Corvallis (110), you'll wind through gorgeous wine country and cross the river with a little ride on the Wheatland Ferry! The Finish Line Beach Party is directly in the sand at Cape Kiwanda in Pacific City. Hot showers, award-winning Pelican Pub beer, prizes for riders and more. This ride, a benefit for the American Lung Association of Oregon. You can sign up at any of the start locations on the morning of the ride.
SUMMIT TO SURF | July 28 - Welches
You don't have to actually go all the way from the mountain to the whitecaps to be a part of the American Diabetes Association's 12th annual Summit to Surf Bike Ride. With distance options from 10 to 100 miles, this ride is perfect for cyclists of all skill levels. The original ride begins in Welches, Oregon and continues on Highways 26 and 35 over the East side of Mt. Hood to Hood River. The 10 mile route starts from the Hatfield station and takes a gorgeous 10 mile loop through the majestic Mosier tunnels.

Registration is only $35 until July 1st. A minimum fund raising amount
of $100 is required in addition to your registration fee. Join in to support diabetes research, advocacy and information. Last year's event had over 1,300 registered riders raising over $318,000.00.

COMMISSIONER ADAMS AT PIR | May 21, Portland
Portland City Commissioner Sam Adams is visiting the Oregon Bicycle Racing Association's (OBRA) races at Portland International Raceway (PIR). Portland bicycle racers have been gathering at PIR for more than 30 years, and the venue has provided racers an easy and unique track for racing. Since its inception in the late 1970s, OBRA's membership has grown to more than 3,000 racers across Oregon, which is the highest racing club membership per capita in the United States.

Commissioner Adams will tour the racetrack area, chat with racers, become an honorary OBRA race official and kick start the races. This event is the racing community's opportunity to share with Adams how they have benefited from having PIR available for racing. Commissioner Adams certainly likes bikes, but as far as we know he won't be racing on Monday. Just yet.
