    OREGON MANIFEST | October 10-12 - Portland
The bicycle industry has been experiencing a banner year and Portland is at the heart of it. A new study just released by Alta Planning and Design concluded a 38% growth in Portland's bike economy since 2006! Set within the heart of Portland's legendary cyclocross scene, Oregon Manifest will feature an unconquerable mix of custom framebuilders, bike-centric vendors, bike culture squads and blowout parties, crowned with a Sunday cyclocross race to bring home the glory.

Last year, local frambuilders organized a humble handbuilt bike show at the World Forestry Center, but when show day came they were blown away by the huge crowds that flooded through the doors. Now they're at it again, but this time with more oomph. Oregon Manifest is the collective vision of Portland's cycling and creative communities who've come together to dream up and develop the most original, spirited and spectacle-laden boutique bike show in the nation. The organizes are committed to making this something out of the ordinary.
FILMED BY BIKE RETRO | October 10 - Portland
Filmed by Bike, Portland's film festival dedicated exclusively to short bike movies, has put together a program of their greatest hits from the last six years. Filmed by Bike Retro - Presented by River City Bicycles takes place at Wieden + Kennedy, 224 NW 13th, in conjunction with the Oregon Manifest Opening Night Blowout.

This special free screening will feature nearly-lost footage from the early days, movies that were banned in other cities and removed from the internet, the unveiling of the 2009 trailer and on-the-street footage from the 2008 festival. It's sure to be more bike love than you can wrap your bar tape around. Also showing will be the new trailer for VEER, a movie about a year in the life of Portland's bike culture. Screenings take place at 8pm and 9pm, so get there early to ensure you get a good seat.
BUILDER PROFILE | John Bergshneider - Goodtimes
Good times come when riding bikes, that's why John Bergshneider of Goodtimes Bicycles, based outside of Ashland, OR, is so in love with frambuilding. "I started this business to improve my life," says John. "It's an investment in me. And in doing so, I contribute to an industry that I believe in. This includes meeting and being around like minded people."

John constructs light-duty touring, cyclocross and city commuter frames out of steel. "Fillet brazing allows me to fully customize the angles of the tubes, is very strong and when done right leaves smooth, clean lines. When all is said and done, the frame and its bits go up to Keith Anderson. Keith lays the sweet, sweet wet paint."

Framebuilders tend to work very solo, for hours on end, often in a small enclosed workshop. And while John enjoys that alone time, he also appreciates the interactions he has with other people in the process. "I once told Keith that heading up to his shop, with frame in hand was the greatest moment," he says. "There is a lot of time, communication, and physical energy used to complete a frameset, so there is a sense of accomplishment when at the paint shop. The dude also has a lifetime of framebuilding knowledge and pushes me to be top-notch."

John is happy in his frambuilding life, and embraces a positive outlook on the world around him, "I believe there is a lot of bottled up energy out there and cycling can be a great way of uncorking it." Goodtimes will be set up at Oregon Manifest, so stop by the booth to get a taste of the bikes John builds and the wisdom he extols.
HARVEST CENTURY | October 12 - St. Paul
Break out your favorite Halloween costume for the last organized ride of Oregon's cycling season. At the sixth annual Harvest Century riders choose from 42, 75, or 102-mile routes that start and end at Champoeg State Park in St.Paul. Pumpkins mark the way as you journey through lush farm country, over rolling hills and under canopies of autumn colored trees. The Harvest Century is also known for its friendly volunteers who serve up a delicious hot lunch, pressed apple cider and other energy-rich food during this fully supported ride. Don't forget to have your dancing shoes ready for the finish line party that features live music from Back Porch Revival and cold beer from Rogue Ales.

All proceeds from the Harvest Century benefit Community Vision, the largest nonprofit organization providing individualized housing, supported living, employment and homeownership services to people with disabilities and their families in Oregon. There is an awesome raffle prize package of head-to-toe rain gear from Portland's own Showers Pass. Anyone who donates $25 or more for Community Vision is eligible for the raffle.
MT. BIKE BRAZIL | November 7-17 - Brazil!
Mt. Bike Brazil is an opportunity to experience a guided mountain bike tour through coffee fields, forests and beautiful lush valleys of Brazil. Augusto Carneiro, owner of Nossa Familia Coffee, grew up in his family's coffee fields and cycling is his passion. Augusto runs Nossa Familia out of Portland, Oregon, but he wants you to travel with him back to Brazil for this amazing adventure.

You'll be staying in a hotel located a half mile from Augusto's grandparents' farm house, just outside the city of Pocos de Caldas. Besides great mountain biking, the trip includes plenty of cultural explorations, culinary delights and of course a great coffee experience and time for relaxation Brazilian style: by a pool, with cold drinks in hand. The riding is mostly on dirt or gravel roads with some climbing and not a lot of technical. You definitely don't have to be an advanced mt. biker to enjoy this trip.

The package price includes ten nights of hotel accommodation, nine days of biking, eleven days in Brazil, all breakfasts, lunches and evening meals, all snacks and hydration drinks during the rides, transportation in Brazil including airport pick up an drop off and a tourist visa.

Nossa Familia is one of the great ORbike partners so if you're an ORbike member you got a pack of this delicious coffee in your member bag. You've probably also tasted Augusto's coffee out on rides this past season. Joining Augusto and the Nossa team is a great way to see Brazil!
