Start, Move, Grow: 2005 recap

Without question, 2005 has been an exciting year of forward movement for SAO. We have new leadership, a new corporate image and a renewed commitment to our critical role in developing Oregon's software industry. Both John Tortorici as president, and Molly Moore as vice president bring new vision and strong leadership to our organization. I know they will provide us with outstanding guidance as we build on the foundation of this year's growth.

Employer Workforce Training Fund Provides $66,000 Training Grant to Coaxis, Inc.

Grants from the Employer Workforce Training Fund help local software developer provide training for software engineers, application developers, technical support technicians and IT technicians. The SAO will survey member companies to identify a range of training needs, and develop an application for a training grant on behalf of the membership.


Incubators House Next Generation of Successful Businesses

Two incubators in the Portland area house the next generation of successful businesses. The Portland Business Accelerator is an incubator created by Portland State University. The Open Technology Business Center (OTBC) in Beaverton is home to companies and individuals focused on open technologies.

Last month, we asked what you think of blogs and how you plan to utilize them in your organization. Almost 70% of you are still fairly unfamiliar with blogs. While more than half of you felt it was important to follow what is being said about your company on blogs, only 50% of you read blogs where your company is mentioned. More than 30% of you have used information learned from blogs to improve your products or services. This is clearly a hot issue -- stayed tuned for more topics on blogs coming from the SAO.
