Oregon Legislature Creates New Innovation Council

Oregon's toughest competition no longer comes from neighboring states. It comes from nations on the far side of the globe. To compete with China and India, two countries with highly educated workers and low labor costs, Oregon must identify and catalyze the strengths that put us ahead of our competitors. Governor Kulongoski and the 2005 legislature created the Oregon Innovation Council ("Oregon InC") to meet this important challenge. Read on for more information.

Working Together – Growing Together

Recently, the Oregon Business Plan highlighted the need to create a smooth and planned transition for students from pre-K through college. An integrated system is essential for providing a seamless education pathway, but should be extended to employment also. This is where the college student internship program fills a gap. Through this industry-education collaboration, many students gain relevant experience germane to their degree, and equally important, find an opportunity for employment.

The Software Association of Oregon Foundation (SAO Foundation) announces receipt of a $10,000 contribution from Intel for the SuperQuest program. SuperQuest supports excellence in K-12 technology education by providing teachers the technology training, tools and support they need through intensive, hands-on summer workshops in computer science, information technology, pre-engineering and programming topics.
