Small businesses are the backbone of a diverse, thriving economy, and supporting these businesses is vital to our region’s prosperity. Chamber President and CEO Ruben Barrales will speak on a panel about the state of San Diego’s small businesses at the Small Business Summit on Thursday, December 3. Barrales will join other regional business leaders to provide access to resources and information for small business owners, as well as hear candid feedback on how the city government can help small businesses succeed.

The Summit will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at the Balboa Park Club, at 2100 Pan American Road West, San Diego, CA 92101. Click here for more information.

The State Legislature recently passed an emergency state law on Electronic Discovery. It is vital that business owners and nonprofits understand the legal implications in the event of a lawsuit.

Under the leadership of John Stephens, Wertz, McDade Wallace Moot & Brower, the Chamber Legal Committee has organized a special seminar on Electronic Discovery on Friday, December 4. Join a panel of experts for valuable information and real world examples of cases where businesses were negatively impacted by not properly storing or disclosing electronic data.

The seminar will be held at 8:00 a.m. at the Chamber offices, at 402 W. Broadway Suite 1000, San Diego and is complimentary. Additional guests are welcome. Click here to register online.

A Supplement to Passwords 101

New Years is a time that I use to remind people to change their passwords, and instruct them on how to create a great password. One of the problems is that most people can’t remember which password is linked to which website.

One of the best practices for businesses is to know where all of their computers are and to know where all of their wireless and wired access points are. If you don’t know what you have, you can’t protect it and you are seriously exposed to attack. Read more...
