A safe and reliable water source is vital for both businesses and our way of life in the San Diego region. On December 10, the California Coastal Commission dismissed San Diego Coastkeeper's legal challenge to revoke the
Carlsbad Desalination Project's Coastal Development Permit. Coastkeeper's lawsuit was the tenth attempt to delay the project. A much-needed additional water supply for our region, the Carlsbad Desalination facility will
produce 50 million gallons per day of highly quality drinking water and serve 300,000 residents. Construction of the project started in November, and is scheduled to be operational in 2012.

With 130,000 people crossing the San Ysidro Port of Entry on a daily basis, border improvements are imperative to our bi-national economies. The Chamber has been invited to participate in a groundbreaking ceremony for Phase I of the San
Ysidro Port of Entry project on December 17. Once all three phases are completed in 2014, the number of northbound lanes will be increased and inspection points will be equipped with double-staking lanes, increasing northbound
throughput. These improvements will help counteract the negative impacts of border delays, improving the efficient movement of goods and people for our region’s economy.
