Economic Stimulus Grants Small Businesses More Opportunities to Contract With the Military

The Department of Defense (DoD) and the military continue to play important role in the region’s economy and remains one of the few sectors immune to the current recession.  The DoD, which already accounts for one-quarter of the region’s job base and approximately one-third of the region’s economic output, stands to increase its economic contribution by means of the federal economic stimulus package.

Public Policy Update

Water is a precious resource.  To transport this necessity 300 miles from the Colorado River and 500 miles from the Sacramento River Delta, we require substantial amounts of energy.  19% of all energy consumed in the State of California is for the transmission and treatment of water.  On April 23, 2009, the San Diego County Water Authority Board of Directors (SDCWA) voted to reduce water supplies to the region by 8%.
