FIGHT THE COST SHIFT
Voice Your Support of the Cost Shift Appeal

The December 2nd decision by the California Public Utility Commission (CPUC) to shift hundreds of millions of dollars in unfair energy costs to San Diego businesses can't be taken sitting down.

Now more than ever, it is critical that you voice your opinion to the CPUC regarding this outrageous act.

Two weeks ago, three members of the five-member body (Commissioners Carl Wood, Geoffrey Brown and Loretta Lynch) opted to ignore calls for fairness and pleas from over 1,200 San Diego businesses and individuals. Instead, they voted to shift over $700 million of Southern California Edison and Pacific Gas & Electric debt to the San Diego business community.

The San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce has joined several other organizations in asking the CPUC to charge us only our fair share of the electricity debt accrued during the energy crisis of 2000-2001. That debt amounted to approximately $450 million of the one billion dollar total.

Representatives from the Chamber traveled to San Francisco on four different occasions to attend hearings and make this plea in person, all to no avail.

In the end, the CPUC's bias in favor of everyone North of South Orange County again prevailed and the San Diego business community will have to shoulder the burden of an additional $300 million in costs.
