On Saturday, Sept. 4, the Art in the City conference offers a great deal for young folks who see themselves as future art collectors. For $35, get admission to the art fair (noon to 8 p.m.), which features displays from
dozens of top-notch galleries and artists from around the world (like Amy Casey, whose "Safety Net" is shown here), to the Art San Diego Films festival (1 to 8 p.m.) with its line-up of films about boundary-pushing creative folks, and to
the Young Collectors Night / Wine 2.0 event (6 to 8 p.m.), where you can taste wines from 40 producers and get some tips on making wise investments in local talent. (Admission to the fair only, not the wine tasting, is $15.)

From 6 to 9 p.m.Thursday, Sept. 2, Susan Street Fine Art (415 South Cedros Ave., Solana Beach) will be showing works by Sheldon Greenberg and Heather Patterson. The interplay between Greenberg's literal-meets-figurative
multi-dimensional works (his "Stillmotion" is pictured left) and Patterson's colorful geometrical patterns makes for one of the more interesting pairings we've seen in awhile. Greenberg is a favorite artist of Susan Street's, but Patterson
is new, so be one of the first in town to see her work. The show will be on view through Oct. 31.

After the folks at L.B. Powers & Sons Plumbing were told that nothing could be done about the ugly bus-stop bench in front of their business on West Lewis Street in Mission Hills, they decided to come up with a creative way to beautify the
'hood. To help raise the money to replace the bench, they've put together a Power Walks booklet that promises an "insider's tour" of one of San Diego's most architecturally charming areas. So, lace up your walking shoes and head
over to 1705 W. Lewis St. The booklet and costs $5 and contains maps for three walks.
