CityBeat RED LIST - Feb. 14, 2011
- Feb. 14, 2011

57 Degrees (1735 Hancock St., Mission Hills) is a huge warehouse filled with wine and at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18 you're invited to stop by and pair their vino with several of San Diego's (and some of L.A.'s) growing fleet of food trucks. So far, Papas Tapas, Tabe BBQ, Chop Sooey, Sweet Treats, Greasy Wiener, Flippin Pizza and Kaminski Super Q are on board. This may be the largest Food Truck Gathering that's ever happened in San Diego. Question is: are they all homies, or will an impromptu demolition derby take place in the parking lot?

The San Diego Jewish Film Festival is happening now through Feb. 20. Do yourself a favor and before or after you see one of the films, stop by From Page to Stage: Portraits of Jewish Literary Figures by John David Ratajkowski, a thoughtful exhibition of Jewish literary figures depicted in film (Adrien Brody from The Pianist pictured left) on view through Feb. 23 at the Gotthelf Art Gallery at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center (4126 Executive Drive in La Jolla). Ratajkowski, an experienced painter who usually does abstract work, spent hours going through the films in search of the perfect frame that captured each character's personality.

Poetry, prose, short stories, creative nonfiction and novel excerpts by local scribes have been submitted, judged and (if they made the cut) published in the San Diego Writers, Ink's A Year in Ink, Vol 4, an anthology edited by Laurel Corona and Jericho Brown. Writers, Ink celebrates the release of the book with readings and a party starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, at Cygnet Theater, 2410 Congress St. in Old Town. Click here for info on the event. More local-writer goodness happens from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, when nine talented local female authors (including Corona, Caitlin Rother, Jennifer Coburn and Kathi Diament) read from their work at Hair Drezzers on Fire (3463 Adams Ave. in Normal Heights).

Chicks for Beer is what it is: a group of gals who love good craft brews. With a few beer events under their belts so far, the crew is back with a night featuring Colby Chandler, a brewer from Ballast Point, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15 at High Dive (1801 Morena Blvd., Bay Park). Chandler will lead a quickbeer 101, then attendees can kick back and enjoy the Chicks' food and dessert pairings. Tickets are $25 now or $30 at the door.
