DIGABLE LIBS

Can ya feel it? Election season's here (on that note, check out CityBeat's new column, "Turds and Blossoms"). In this week's issue, film editor Anders Wright reviewed The Most Dangerous Man in America, a documentary about Daniel Ellsberg, the guy who smuggled the Pentagon Papers---the report detailing the extent to which the U.S. screwed up the Vietnam War---out of the White House. It's a must-see film for anyone with an iota of interest in government accountability. And, if you'd like to see it with some like-minded folks, the local chapter of Drinking Liberally will hit up the 7:15 pm. screening on Wednesday, March 24 at the Ken Cinema (4061 Adams Ave.).

DIGABLE CREATIVITY

Brenda Xu's new record, A Little Illusion got an "extraspecialgood" designation in our local music issue (the highest honor) for her "boundless" vocal ability and skilled musicianship. From 8 p.m. to midnight Wednesday, March 24, Xu, along with the Greg Gibson Band and live spoken-word readings by Tria Andrews and Joseph Voth, comprise the latest Latent Print "call for submissions" party (consider it more a chance for San Diego to show off its best and most creative). Latent Print is an online 'zine that showcases local creativity; the event doubles as a farewell to Latent Print's co-founder Charlie Yi---a filmmaker who's heading eastward. Whether you know Yi or not, it'll be a good time.

DIGABLE TREAT

If you're a fan of CityBeat food critic Candice Woo, you know how much she loves Red Velvet Cake---cake form, cupcake form; it doesn't matter. How about yogurt form? Yogurtland in Little Italy (1680 India St.; with other locations in PB and Mira Mesa) recently added the flavor "Red Velvet Cupcake Batter" to its menu. Why call the flavor "cupcake" batter (as opposed to cake)? Who knows? And, really, does it matter? All that matters is that we sent over one of our Red Velvet Cake taste testers over there and she returned and declared herself an addict.
