CityBeat RED LIST Nov. 4, 2009
- Nov. 4, 2009

These are the things we dig...

DIGABLE RETURN

We're pretty excited about the return of the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego's TNT event, happening from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5. The event's been on hiatus since spring, and while it used to cost a recommended donation of $3 (aka "free"), this time it's 10 bucks a head - which is what you'd pay to get into the museum in the first place. Check out Tara Donovan's rad manufactured-materials sculptures, catch music from Birds and Batteries, DJ Money Mark, and balloon basist Addie Somekh and participate in an interactive art project with David Adey. Afterwards, walk over to the W Hotel (421 West B St.) for Holiday Matinee's unofficial after-party featuring music, food and "adult" beverages.

DIGABLE SIN PLOMO

The Spanish "Barro sin Plomo" translates to "clay without lead," and is also the name of an organization founded by Victor Aguila Sanchez, an anthropologist who wanted to help Mexican artisans create their pottery using nontoxic materials. From 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, some of those artisans will display and sell their hand-crafted bowls, vases and pitchers at UCSD's Institute of the Americas (off North Torrey Pines Road). Check out their work, learn a little more about the history of lead-free clay and perhaps pick up some early Christmas gifts. RSVP is requested.

DIGABLE BREWS

San Diego Beer Week, launching Nov. 4, is crazy ya'll. Check out Candice Woo's round up of events in this week's issue of CityBeat or, go online to www.sdbw.org to see the full lineup. If you still need help sorting through it all, here are a few more events that got our attention: on Sunday, Nov. 8, Blind Lady Ale House (3416 Adams Ave., Normal Heights) is hosting a dog adoption event (4 to 7 p.m.) and serving Dogfish Head craft beer. A dollar from every pint sold goes to Second Chance Dog Rescue, and you keep the glass. From 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, yours truly takes over University Heights' brand-new bar. Beer specials abound, but you have to register to get in (go to www.sdcitybeat.com and click on "Promotions/CityBeat events). And, on Wednesday, Nov. 11, from 5 p.m. until it's all gone, Main Tap Room (518 E. Main St., El Cajon) is serving Karl Strauss' limited edition Belgian Lavender Pale Ale, and again, you keep the glass. On various days through beer week, The Best Damn Beer Shop (1036 Seventh Ave., Downtown) is offering discounts on select brews. See the beer week calendar for what's available and when.
