CityBeat RED LIST Sept. 24, 2009
- Sept. 24, 2009
These are the things we dig...

It's easy to forget that the guy behind the Andrews Gallery, Drew Snyder, is a young'un, still his 20s. But he's single-handedly upped the cultural cache of North County (Andrews is located in Leucadia). On Saturday, Sept. 26, the gallery closes The Language of Abstraction, an exhibition of works by renowned contemporary artist Ron Tomlinson. Snyder likes to do things multimedia, inviting local and touring musical acts to perform at openings and closings. In this instance, it's all about the ladies: Joanie Mendenhall and Angela Correa's Correatown will both be performing. The evening begins at 7 p.m. at 1002 North Coast Highway 101.

If you heard Richard Dreyfuss talking to Maureen Cavanaugh on KPBS' These Days, you may have wondered when the Down and Out in Beverly Hills star became such a sourpuss. The guy needs to lighten up a bitseriously. Or, maybe it's us who're doing far too much whistlin' in the graveyard. Catch a talk by Dreyfuss as part of the San Diego Film Festival, where he'll be speaking from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, sharing "provocative insights of America and the power of motion pictures to shape us politically and morally." Ticket sale proceeds to benefit The Dreyfuss Initiative, a non-profit foundation dedicated to returning the teaching of civics to American education.

You're probably getting this too late to make it to tonight's (Thursday, Sept. 24) opening-night Loft Off (at The Loft @ UCSD), but there's plenty of things going on at one of San Diego's most underrated music and arts venues. Comedy troupe Upright Citizens Brigade perform Monday, Sept. 28; selections from the Tribeca Film Festival kick off with Kobe Doin' Work on Wednesday, Sept. 30. And we're specially looking forward to Dean and Britta (formerly of Luna) who'll perform Friday, Oct. 9.
