Ronn Kakazu's 6th Grade Class at Pacific Union College Elementary in Angwin, California blew us away with their fund-raising capabilities. The group of students raised $1,018 at a Movie Night Fund-Raiser for Clinica
Verde on Nov. 7.
The kids conceived of and organized the benefit as a class project, presenting a screening of "Journey to the Center of the Earth" with the Clinica Verde documentary created by filmmaker Brian Capener as the preview. The proceeds from
concessions including vegetarian corn dogs, Italian sodas, popcorn and candy went to CV.
"I hope the money goes to help kids like us," said 6th grader Cole Yeager. "We hope they have a happy place to go where they don't have to worry when they get sick."
"I hope that each dollar we raised saves one life," said Emma Duge. "I hope that we will make a difference," said Alani Denton.
Added Tabitha Mailand: "I just wish I could do more to help."
Thank you, Ronn Kakazu and his awesome group of students. Their commitment and hard work is an inspiration.
NOTE: Clinica Verde needs to raise about $60,000 more to complete clinic construction. We are urgently working to meet this goal. Please contact us if you know any supporters who may assist us in our cause!
I want to help Clinica Verde change lives.

Grace Awards Clinica Verde $10,000
We'd like to offer our profound gratitude to Grace Episcopal Church of St. Helena, California for offering financial support to Clinica Verde for the third year. The Grace Outreach Committee has announced an award of $10,000 to Clinica
Verde to help us complete clinic construction.
Said GO Committee Chair, Judy Cummings: "It is Grace Episcopal Church through the Grace Outreach Committee that provided the seeds to grow Clinica Verde. Our continued support helps to fulfil our pledge to change the world by reaching out
to those in need. As in the parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus said, 'Anything you do for the least of these my brethren you do for me."'
We are inspired and blessed to have the commitment of such an extraordinary spiritual community. Thank you, Grace, for your belief and faith in our good work.
I'd like to help too!
"All people and things are interdependent. The world has become so small that no nation can solve its problems alone, in isolation from others. That is why I believe we must all cultivate a sense of responsibility based on love and
compassion."

CV Annual Meeting Recap
Our third annual meeting of the board was held in Granada, Nicaragua on Nov. 13, and all went exceptionally well. We had full attendance, productive meetings with our Nicaraguan partners, and returned home energized for the work ahead in
the coming year. A couple of key updates:
• We pushed our construction start date to January 2011 to give us time to do some additional fine-tuning to the plan. If all goes according to expectations, that should take us to a completion date of October 2011. Spread the word and
help us gain support!
• We are very pleased to add to our Board of Directors Dennis de Vreede of Amsterdam, Netherlands. Dennis is currently CFO of the international real estate development company REDEVCO and has been an Advisor to Clinica Verde during the
past year. He has been a tremendous asset to our project, spreading the word and cultivating interest in our work outside of Latin America and the U.S. He'll be helping us with the financial side of Clinica Verde and heading up development
in Europe. Welcome, Dennis!
Kristof: "How Can We Help the World's Poor?"
In a recent review in The New York Times, Nicolas Kristoff looks at some of the challenges and lessons learned from Western efforts to confront poverty in developing countries. We agree that throwing money at foreign countries or
attempting to solve their problems with Western solutions is no answer. Clinica Verde seeks to develop long-term, meaningful partnerships with Nicaraguans invested in innovative approaches to healthcare for the impoverished. Our board of
directors provides close oversight of all aspects of our project while encouraging the investment, input and leadership of Nicaraguans within the community. We know the work ahead will be challenging, but strongly believe it's worth the
risk and investment.
