Construction Begins! |
 |
|
By CV Project Manager Johny Siman
We have officially started the construction of Clinica Verde. This is the moment we have all been waiting for – where everybody's hard work starts paying off as we begin to see the clinic come to life.
I'm sure there will be many obstacles on the 10-month road to finish construction, but I am also very confident we will overcome them.
We have hired the services of Maestro Miguel Zapata, who has more than 45 years on-the-job experience and has worked with the top architects in Nicaragua, including Alfredo Osorio, Roberto Sampson, Gabriel Urcuyo, and the renowned Ronald
Zurcher of Costa Rica.
The list of projects that Maestro Zapata has worked on is very long, but they include the remodeling of the Government House and Congress after the 1972 Nicaragua earthquake, all of the construction for Banco Mercantil, the Pops buildings
and shopping centers, and the homes of many businessmen and politicians. We are confident that Maestro Zapata will supervise the construction of our environmentally sustainable health clinic for women and children living in poverty with
great responsibility and attention.
If all goes according to schedule, Clinica Verde will be ready to administer loving quality healthcare to the less fortunate people of the Boaco area of Nicaragua by the end of this year. Thank you for believing and supporting this
wonderful work.
NOTE: Clinica Verde still needs to raise about $60,000 to complete clinic construction. We are urgently working to meet this goal. Please contact us if you know any supporters who may assist us in our good work!
I want to help Clinica Verde change lives.
CV Welcomes New Advisors
Clinica Verde is happy to introduce to you two new advisors to our project, Matt Holtman and Dr. Horacio Moreno.
Matt Holtman is a sociologist based in Philadelphia. He started his career at Family Health International, where he did reproductive health services research in Mexico, Honduras, Egypt and Bangladesh. Matt taught statistics and
research methods for several years at the Fels Institute of Government and the Department of Criminology at the University of Pennsylvania and currently leads new product development for a major testing organization and is an active
researcher in the areas of professionalism, patient safety and medical education. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Horacio Moreno is a physician who has served as the director of MINSA (Ministry of Health) in the community of San Lorenzo in Nicaragua since 1999, winning recognition for his district as the top municipality of SILAIS (the
local system of integrated healthcare) by improving the area's health indicators. He is an expert on reproductive health who has helped to coordinate many medical mission trips traveling from abroad.
We're so grateful for their insights and involvement in our work!

DONOR SPOTLIGHT: Dick Vos |
 |
|
Dick Vos is Senior Manager Research and Strategy at REDEVCO, a privately owned international real estate development company. He and his wife Louky live in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and have three children.
In the world there are so many destinations for charity funding that it is rather difficult to make a decision where to go with your gifts. In theory everybody in the world has more or less equal rights to receive your donations. So, why
did I choose Clinica Verde?
In my philosophy we – from the more prosperous parts of this world – have to help people in the less prosperous parts with the aim that in the future they can care for themselves. Charity – in the end – must not lead to a dependency
forever. Clinica Verde fits in that philosophy perfectly. Clinica Verde is focusing on a very fundamental thing in life: your health.
Besides that, you want to know that your money really will be spent for healthcare purposes only. The information Clinica Verde is providing the donors is fulfilling that need. It gives you a lot of transparency in the total process of
charity. It also makes clear how much money still is needed to finalize the project. That information makes clear – at the same time – that you are not the only one funding Clinica Verde. That is important.
It is typical human nature to want to join a team in reaching a common goal. Clinica Verde gives you the feeling that you are part of that team. But above that you have to believe in the reliability of the board of directors and the
advisors to that board. I have been convinced to become a donor by my colleague, Dennis de Vreede, who serves on the board of directors of Clinica Verde, and – in my experience – Dennis is a very reliable man.
I wish you all the best in your much appreciated work!
I'd like to help too!
