Laborers fill the building site with select material. |
|
The latest report from the field from Project Manager Johny Siman:
BOACO, NICARAGUA, JUNE 26: About half of the main building terrace has been filled with select material (dirt that will give solid compacting), and testing continues on the soil. We are trying to level out the area so that we can fill
evenly through the main building. Nicaraguan architect Alfredo Osorio is working on wrapping up construction documents, including structural drawings.
Our contractor dug and filled between the street terrace and the main building so we are able to expand the road if we choose. Also, on the fence line where we put dirt to hold off water, he is putting a ditch 3 meters wide by 1 meter deep
to accumulate the water coming from that land. He is running it towards the west side of the property to address drainage issues.
At this time, we are continuing to fill the streets and the parking lot with select material.
NOTE: Clinica Verde needs to raise about $140,000 more to complete clinic construction. We are urgently working to meet this goal. Please contact us if you know any supporters who may assist us in our cause!

MCC Cuts Funding to Nicaragua
The Millennium Challenge Corporation, chaired by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, last month voted to cut the remaining $64 million in development aid to Nicaragua as retribution for President Daniel Ortega's governance
practices. The MCC suspended aid in November of 2009 following concerns over electoral fraud in municipal elections in Nicaragua, and the latest move reinforces the international organization's stand against the policies and practices of
President Ortega.
What does this mean for Clinica Verde? It increases the urgency of the work we're doing to help those living in poverty. As a non-partisan NGO, we have one goal: to aid the progress of our cherished clients, women and children in need. We
hold fast to that goal – and need your support more than ever.

DONOR SPOTLIGHT: Laurie Claudon and Tom Clark |

Awesome Supporters |
|
Laurie Claudon and Tom Clark have lived in the Napa Valley raising a family, growing grapes and making wine for 35 years. In addition, Laurie had a 17-year private psychotherapy practice. Today Tom and Laurie
continue to produce Clark-Claudon wines – but the best part of their life is their three, soon to be four, grandchildren. Tom and Laurie served in the Peace Corps in Latin America in 1971.
"Our first trip to Nicaragua was 9 years ago. From the moment we arrived we were struck by the consequences of severe poverty. On our return trips, we have continually been touched by the strength of the women in their efforts to provide
for their families. Yet, without a basic knowledge about nutrition and medical care or a decent medical facility, they are often at a loss.
"Clinica Verde will provide these families with another option. There, mothers will learn about healthy child care and nutrition as well as have a clean, modern and sustainable medical clinic to visit when their children are sick. In
addition, the clinic can be duplicated around the globe, even in the United States. I always remember the line; "There but by the grace of God go I." We are so fortunate to live where we do. It feels wonderful and necessary to help those
who are not so lucky."
