My Mom taught me a lot of things, but there's one thing that seemed especially important: To be kind and giving to others less fortunate. Good fortune, I learned, is so much more powerful and fulfilling when it's shared.

This Mother's Day, I'm making a donation to Clinica Verde in the name of my Mom, Carolyn Dix. I know that she's proud of me for the work I'm doing to bring health and hope to women and children in need in Nicaragua. So it's my way of saying thanks for the gift of love she gave me, and of sharing it with the world.
