Who's Making Headlines in Snohomish County



  • Paine Field will become the new home for Korry Electronics , an avionics and controls division of Esterline Technologies. Korry will bring more than 600 jobs to the county when it opens its new facility in early 2009. Its presence will further enhance the county's growing reputation as a leader in aeronautical design and manufacturing expertise.

  • The Unemployment rate dropped to 4.3%. This is one-tenth of a percentage point lower than February's rate of 4.4%. The corresponding (not seasonally adjusted) rate for the state was 5.3% in March. Sectors that added jobs included Health Services (+400) and Aerospace (+200).

  • The EDC Quarterly Breakfast Meeting will be held on May 8th and features Keynote speaker Ada M.   • Cardiac Science Corporation sold 282 electrocardiograph systems (ECG's) to Mexico's Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado (ISSSTE)the single largest ECG order in Cardiac Science history.

  • In an order designed to perk up Snohomish County commuters, Community Transit plans to purchase 23 double decker buses for its daily commuter runs to Seattle. At the same time, the agency announced its annual ridership in 2007 climbed 10 percent to a record 10.9 million riders.

  • In an effort to promote increased participation and access to Port Commission meetings, the Port of Everett began podcasting its commission meetings April 8th via the Port's website - www.portofeverett.com

  • On May 1, 2008 Horizon Air is inaugurating daily direct service from SeaTac to Prince George, B.C.

  • According to information at fdic.gov, 72 Washington Banks have assets of 100 million dollars or more, as of December 31, 2007. Six of those banks reached 100 million dollars in assets for the first time in 2007.

  • CMC ICOS Biologics and Acorda Therapeutics announced that Acorda has selected CMC ICOS as the contract manufacturer for GGF2, the lead molecule in Acorda's neuregulin program.

  • The Boeing Company reported a 38 percent jump in its first quarter income over the previous year based on growth in its commercial jet business.
