Providence Regional Medical Center Everett (PRMCE)
is featured in BusinessWeek magazine, a national business medium. Cathy Arnst, the BusinessWeek reporter, called the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) and asked their leadership to direct her to a hospital that is
providing high-quality, low-cost healthcare and they told her to come to PRMCE. This is one example in a recent string of PRMCE in the national spotlight.

The Washington State Department of Commerce
has scheduled their 2010 Trade Week for March 12-19. Six of the States' overseas representatives come to Washington to provide assistance to exporters and to promote exports as a business expansion strategy. The EDC is co-sponsoring

Light Doctor
, a Mountlake Terrace firm, has recently tallied up the retrofits the Company did in 2009 and the estimated energy savings that accrued from their work. Here's a recap of what they were able to do:
- Total kWhs saved: 15,731,730
- Total energy savings: $1,101,221/yr
- Equivalent gallons of gasoline saved: 907,599
Incidentally, of the total, 3.6 million kWhs were in Snohomish County.

Soundview School
, a Lynwood private school, is taking part in a two-day peace negotiation workshop with the hope of learning and creating their own plan to negotiate peace between Israel and Palestine. Seventh and eighth-graders from the school will
be attending "Whose Jerusalem? The Palestinian-Israeli Conflict," organized by Boston-based Axis of Hope. Students will learn to negotiate rather than argue and how such details as body language and word choice impact how they get their
point across. Inae Piercy, Principal of Soundview School, hopes that students will not only learn more about the Middle East conflict but will come up with a way to negotiate in a peaceful way.

The EDC is partnering on an Everett Area Chamber of Commerce event addressing energy efficiency called the "emPOWERing Business Conference"
. From restaurants to retail, manufacturing to corporate offices, businesses can save energy, resources and money. Representatives from The PUD and Puget Sound Energy will describe how companies of all sizes and types are powering
profits with energy efficiency – and how to identify savings for your business. The event will take place on March 31st from 7:30am to 11:30am at Everett Station. Registration should begin mid-February.

Washington State University
is ranked 10th among national universities by a prominent sustainability website for its developments in clean technology. Two relevant projects include Seattle-based AltAir Fuels working to replace about 10 percent of the petroleum
fuel consumed annually at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport with renewable jet fuels, reducing carbon emissions by about 14 billion pounds over 10 years. They have also announced a $38 million project, where WSU researchers will be
working to make the City of Pullman the region's first smart grid community.

The EDC and Impact Washington are offering a half-day seminar addressing organizational and financial planning issues. Titled "Succeeding During Uncertain Times: Strategies for Family-Owned and Closely-Held
Businesses"
, Lise Stewart from Galliard Group will lead a 4-hour seminar on practical steps a family-owned or closely-held business can take to increase success, trust, harmony and productivity. Stewart will also address the important issue of

The EDC held its Annual Meeting
on January 20th at the Edward D. Hansen Conference Center at the Comcast Arena in Everett. Washington State's Chief Economist, Dr. Arun Raha, reported on the tough previous year and his predicted outcome for "The Great Recession".
Dr. Raha said that while the economy is definitely improving, he doesn't believe that it will return to its previous peak till 2011. Dr. Raha's PowerPoint presentation, as well as a copy of the EDC 2009 Annual Report, is available online
