  • GraphiCode, a global provider of cost-effective, superior software innovations for electronics manufacturing, announced the move of long-time offices in Mountlake Terrace, WA, to a new headquarters in historic Snohomish, WA.

  • The Seattle Times Reports- Alder Biopharmaceuticals snagged some $40 million from investors in January, one of the largest local venture-capital rounds this year. Now the firm, whose founders devised a method to accelerate the discovery and production of biotech drugs, wants to expand its payroll from 34 to 50 employees by the end of the year.   • The Bothell City Council adopted a Carbon Reduction and Energy Independence Plan that signifies the City's commitment to serve as a leader in climate protection and to reduce City energy costs. The resolution officially launches the City's new program, Bothell CO2OL, and directs the City Manager to pursue and provide Council with recommendations concerning the development and implementation of a Carbon Reduction and Energy Independence Plan in phases, with its first programs to be introduced in September 2008. Earlier this year, the Bothell City Council identified the development of green building incentives for the private sector development as one of its top priorities for 2008.

  • Cascadia Community College commemorated the beginning of construction for its first campus expansion project on May 20th. The new building is the $35 million, 54,000 square foot Center for Global Learning and the Arts. The center will house state-of-the-art classrooms, faculty offices, a performing arts theater, two art studios and more. In addition to being a fantastic resource for students and faculty, the new building will allow Cascadia to expand by an additional 800 students, opening up further learning opportunities, as well as increasing the positive economic impact the whole campus has on the region.

  • The City of Mountlake Terrace is developing a strategy to be more sustainable in its own operations and to encourage others to do the same. The first draft of a Sustainability Strategy will be ready for consideration in July. Already, the City has adopted a new sidewalk investment plan and strict stormwater standards, added energy upgrades at its regional swimming pool, and is advocating for regional transit investments to reduce pollution and congestion.

  • The loss of construction jobs helped push the Unemployment Rate up to 4.6 percent in May. This is a full percentage point above the April figure of 3.6 percent. It is also seven-tenths of percentage point above the year ago figure, which was 3.9 percent. The corresponding (not seasonally adjusted) rate for the state rose to 5.1% from 4.6 percent in April.

  • The EDC would like to Welcome Lori Wells to the Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) Team. Lori will be working in the capacity of the Administrative Assistant providing all aspects of administrative support for the PTAC team.
