    WELCOME!

    Welcome to the First Edition of our STRADA Newsletter! We're excited to offer you this online newsletter to keep you up to date on what is going on in the world of fitness and adventures. In future issues you'll find regular fit tips, informative health and fitness articles, STRADA member profiles and the latest on what's happening at STRADA.     HOW MUCH EXERCISE?

    The typical American is heavier and less active than ever before, and as our size increases so must the amount of time that we workout or expend calories.

    In January of 2005 the U.S. government released a new set of dietary guidelines in regards to the number of minutes you need to exercise to reach a desired goal. So...what's your number of minutes?? Here's what they say:

    30 - To reduce your risk of chronic diseases, lower the risk of heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and osteoporosis: Perform 30 minutes of moderate movement on most days of the week.

    60 - Are you trying to manage your current body weight and prevent gradual unhealthy weight gain in adulthood? Perform 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity on most days of the week.

    90 - To lose weight and sustain that loss in adulthood: Perform 60-90 minutes of moderate activity on most days of the week.

    STRADA TAKES ON CYCLE OREGON!

    On September 9 from the shores of the Columbia, 13 members of the STRADA family took off on a 500 mile journey through the Blue Mountains of NE Oregon. For 7 days, these adventurous souls conquered thousands of feet of climbing, rode through some of the most beautiful landscapes in Oregon, experienced perfect cycling weather days and a couple NOT so perfect days, created new friendships and enriched others, went through a number of tubes, tires, a wheel and learned that helmets really do crack upon impact as designed in the case of an accident! We all came back a little fatigued, a little sore and a lot more appreciative of the importance of the training we had put in preparing for this adventure. Hats off to all who conquered the Blues! You did the TRAINING for your ADVENTURE - and the DISCOVERY in yourself was yours...
