Class of 2008 News

On February 21st, the LEAD Class spent the day in Tijuana-Mexico to acquire a better understanding of the interconnected future of relationships, challenges and opportunities that exist in our bi-national region. The Class received up-to-date border information and a "MEXperiential" learning. Through conversations, presentations and insights about the US-Mexico border, as well as business and policy issues, the Class learned first-hand about Mexico's markets and US-Mexico cross-border trends and issues. Political Candidate Boot Camp a Huge Success

The San Diego Chamber hosted the first ever-Political Candidate Boot Camp, a highly successful event held at San Diego State University. Partnering with LEAD San Diego, SDSU's College of Extended Studies and KUSI-TV, the two-day event featured notable and informative presenters, panelists and moderators and provided a training ground for electoral candidates and office holders on San Diego's future political horizon.

Informative sessions were led by political luminaries including Former State Senator Dede Alpert, Chamber CEO Ruben Barrales, County Supervisor Greg Cox, San Diego City Council members Scott Peters and Jim Madaffer, former Member of Congress Lynn Schenk, Democratic Party Grand Dame Midge Costanza and campaign strategist Tom Shepard. Insight into the role of the media was provided by Paul Bloom and Steve Cohen, KUSI; Scott Lewis, Voice of San Diego; Matt Hall, Union-Tribune and Gloria Penner, KPBS.

Look for the Chamber to repeat this valuable opportunity during the next election cycle.
