A Thankful Heart is a Happy Heart

Go look at your baby. I'll wait.

How do you feel now? Hopefully thankful. Wow. You have a beautiful baby. Aren't you sometimes amazed at all the thousands of little miracles that took place to create this life?

You could think all the way back to how and where you met baby's daddy, and start your gratitude there. Or go back to your own parents, because if they never had you you could never have this baby. And your grandparents...ok, you get the picture.

As we embark on this time of family gatherings, stay thankful in your heart. When you need a little holiday pick-me-up, count your blessings.

Birth Stories by Yoga Yoga students

Ruby's birth story by Holly

Ruby Ann Odom was born on August 16th, 2009, weighing 7 lbs, 5 oz and 19.5" inches long. As this was our first baby, Mark and I were trying very hard to “just relax and stop thinking about it” as everyone was suggesting since she was late on arrival.

After we passed the 40 week and started closing in on 41 weeks we (or, rather, I) changed tactics. Spicy foods, mall walking, love making, acupuncture and balsamic vinegar (mom heard that helps) were all tried.

Finally nine days after my due date on Saturday, August 15th, I started to feel uncomfortable…. click here to read the rest.

Gratitude and Thankfulness

We'd like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude and thankfulness to YOU, our student.

Thank you for practicing yoga with us and for sharing this special time of your life with the Yoga Yoga community.

We came across a research study on Gratitude and Thankfulness from the University of California at Davis.

Here's what the researchers discovered:

Grateful people report higher levels of positive emotions, life satisfaction, vitality, optimism and lower levels of depression and stress.
Grateful people are more likely to acknowledge a belief in the interconnectedness of all life and a commitment to and responsibility to others.
Grateful individuals are less likely to judge success in terms of possessions accumulated and are more likely to share their possessions with others.

In addition, people who practiced gratitude made more progress toward important personal goals, had higher levels of alertness, enthusiasm, and energy, had a greater sense of feeling connected to others, and even enjoyed better sleep duration and sleep quality.

It's interesting to note that all of the results they discovered are exactly the same ones you get when you practice yoga!
