How
to End the "Stress Loop"
Relax, rewind and remodel the brain
The
New York Times ran an article this month summarizing the
results of a scientific research study showing how the brain is
involved in creating a "vicious stress-loop." The study
shows how being highly stressed can actually rewire the brain to
create more stress!
The good news is that stress-induced changes in the brain are reversible.
The brain is a very resilient organ," says Dr. McEwan,
head of the neuroendocrinology laboratory at Rockefeller University.
Dendrites and synapses retract and reform, and reversible
remodeling can occur throughout life.
Furthermore, breathing exercises, meditation techniques, and yoga
practice have been shown to alleviate stress and, thereby, break
the stress cycle!
